What exactly does a geek drummer, singer, songwriter, dancer need to record crappy music? I wouldn’t know but this is what I have:
- Toshiba Laptop dedicated to DAW work.
- Yamaha DTXpress IV drums. These things rock for recording.
- Alesis PerformancePad. Most excellent when a song needs more cowbell.
- Alesis MultiMix 8 USB. Sweet clean pre-amps for a $150 toy.
- Line 6 Toneport UX8. It looked so cool I had to have one. The software and effects are well worth the price.
- Digitech Vocalist Live Pro. I needed more LEDs in my rack so I got this. I’ll let you know what it’s like when I figure out how to turn it on.
- AKG C5 Vocal Microphone. I burned 1/2 my other microphones after hearing this baby.
- Nady XR-61 Wireless microphone. Sometimes I like to sing in the bathroom where the acoustics are good. Wireless is the only way to go in those situations.
- Alesis NanoSynth. This is for all the crap I can’t play myself. It’s super small and old, but still packs sonic punch.
- Yamaha PSR-E213 Midi Keyboard. GuitarCenter was giving these away so I got it for basic MIDI input. Turns out it sounds great and I may get more use out of it than I thought.
- Fender Passport P250. I never believed in monitors. You have to hear your music LOUD as it’s intended to be played. This baby covers that.
- 2 Mainline powered monitors. Again, why use standard monitors when 100W monitors a foot from you will do?
- About 4 1/2 miles of instrument and XLR cables. I honestly believe the cables cost more than all the crap it connects.
- A wife that’s a Saint. Mine’s a discontinued model so I can’t help you find one like her.
